Short definitions to help you understand a quote and talk to your developer.

Domain, DNS and hosting

A domain is the site address. DNS connects its name to web and mail services. Hosting runs your website. A VPS is a virtual server with its own environment. SSL/TLS secures the HTTPS connection.

CMS, PHP and database

A CMS manages content. PHP is a language used by many CMS platforms. A database stores content, settings and orders. Plugins add features; a theme defines presentation.

API, CRM and integration

An API defines how programs exchange data. A CRM manages clients and sales. An integration connects systems, such as sending a website request to a CRM. A webhook notifies another service about an event.

SEO, canonical and 301

SEO improves search accessibility and usefulness. Canonical identifies a preferred page version. HTTP 301 indicates a permanent move. Sitemap.xml lists important URLs; robots.txt sets crawling rules.

Backup, staging and rollback

A backup copies files and the database. Staging is a separate environment for testing changes. Rollback restores a working version using a prepared plan. A backup is only useful if it can be restored.
